Electrician

Hourly (Non-Exempt)

This position is responsible for installing and repairing electrical systems, hydraulic, pneumatic and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment.  This position requires a minimum of 5 years experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting and an electrical license.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, modify and repair all electrical distribution systems and associated electrical equipment (conduit and wire, PLC knowledge, I/O drawing experience)

  • Remain in compliance with current National Electric Code

  • Inspect and test components of electrical systems, including transformers, transfer switches and switch gears

  • Complete work orders and record material utilized on jobs

  • Run computer cables, connect computer jacks and plugs and test for adequate operation

  • Utilize blueprints, wiring diagrams and manufacturer’s installation manuals to complete assigned projects

  • Survey electrical systems, circuits and plans

  • check assigned machinery, production and auxiliary, to ensure it is free of electrical problems that could cause safety or quality problems or machinery malfunctions.

  • Troubleshoot electrical problems, using proper equipment and PPE

  • Perform all plant electrical maintenance.

  • Monitor/repair fire protection system as required (maintain Limited Fire Sprinkler Maintenance Technician license).

  • Repair air, water, and sprinkler lines as required.

  • Perform basic machinist work as required.

  • Rebuild bearings in motors.

  • Repair blowers and sweepers.

  • Lubricate electrical motors.

  • Repair plant water and plumbing systems.

  • Repair/replace light fixtures, ballasts, and bulbs as needed throughout the plant.

  • Fire control system maintenance

  • Check valves inside and outside plant that operate sprinkler system.

  • Check pump house valves and fill water tank as needed.

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical panels.

  • Check contactors for dust accumulation and proper operation, cleaning or replacing as necessary.

  • Repair/replace electrical wiring on machinery as needed.

  • Repair/replace switches on machinery as needed.

  • Air compressor maintenance

  • Check and log compressors that are in operation.

  • Grease motors for each compressor as needed.

  • Perform preventive maintenance as scheduled.

  • Perform assigned weekly and monthly inspections such as ladders, eyewash/shower stations, fire, valve, etc.

  • Maintain an adequate inventory of parts needed. Send off parts that need repairs promptly. All repair items should be packaged and the necessary paperwork completed for pickup by the vendor or UPS.

  • Be self-supervised and professional in all assigned duties.

  • Follow company policies and safety procedures.

  • Must be willing to learn follow all procedures set by company and supervisor.

  • Must be willing to work in any area of department doing different types of jobs.

  • Responsible for keeping his or her area and tools clean.

  • Responsible for keeping quality standards set by the company and supervisor.

  • Responsible for following all safety rules and codes throughout the company.

  • Must be able to read and follow blueprints.

  • Prepares work to be accomplished by studying assembly instructions, blueprint specifications, and parts lists; gathering parts, sub-assemblies, tools, and materials.

  • Uses hand tools and power tools to assemble units according to product specifications

  • Perform pre-work and post-work quality checks to ensure quality.

  • Complete all tasks as necessary; assist in other areas as needed.

  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Adhere to company policies, including attendance and punctuality

  • Communicate with co-workers, management and others in a courteous and professional manner;

  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions including but not limited to confidentiality requirements.

Education & Experience

  • NC Electrical License is required

  • Requires a high school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and 5 years of experience.

  • Technical College education would be a plus but not required.

  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrates an attention to detail.

  • Ability to read, communicate and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions,

  • Blueprint reading and interpretation, Measuring skills and basic mathematics: 1 year (Required)

Knowledge, Skill, & Ability

  • 10+ years’ experience in the electrical trade

  • NC Electrical License is required

  • 10+ years Industrial Electrical experience

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills

  • Able to work well on a team

  • Must be in good physical health

  • Capable of lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 pounds without assistance

  • Excellent hand-eye coordination

  • Demonstrable knowledge and skills for electrical installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills

  • Knowledgeable in basic set up and operation of metal fabricating machines to cut, bend, and form metal plates, sheets, and structural shapes according to blueprints and specifications. Reads and interprets blueprints, engineering specifications, engineering drawings, and shop orders to determine machine setup, production methods, sequence of operations, and material requirements.

  • Safety Awareness - Takes responsibility for his or her own safety as well as the safety of others. Understands the proper processes/equipment in the department. Knowledge of safety procedures, PPE usage, 5S, and all safety regulations in the facility. Responsible for overall cleanliness of working area.

  • Quality - Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisors. Performs first article inspection for conformance to specifications both blue print and work order.

  • Teamwork – Builds teamwork by working with other departments, shifts, and management to meet and exceed customer expectations. Communicate regularly and effectively with co-workers, utilities, coordinators, and management and reports problems with safety, quality, processes, equipment, materials, and/or questionable conditions to the Department Supervisor. Displays professionalism in the workplace, able to perform duties during times of stress and pressure.

  • Continuous Improvement – Ability to manage time and deliver results. Ability to troubleshoot and provide solutions with the understanding of value-added versus non-value added activities and improve the ratio. Ability to collect and understand production data corresponding to the machinery.

  • Flexibility. Availability to work overtime and/or move between shifts for training and/or coverage purposes to support production as needed.

  • Relevant knowledge to look up blueprints, production orders, key parts into inventory, and use the system as a tool to assist in production.

  • Must perform operator preventative maintenance of equipment.

  • Perform other assignments as directed by management
